Lattimer Lecture

The American Academy of Pediatrics sponsors the annual Lattimer Lecture. This endowed lecture

is named in honor of one of the pioneers in pediatric urology. Dr. John K. Lattimer was a scholar,

soldier, athlete, surgeon, author, and internationally known leader in medicine. His most profound

impact, however, was his excellence as a teacher. Dr. Lattimer had a long and distinguished

career, including a quarter century as Professor and Chairman of the Dept of Urology at Columbia

University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Lattimer was a founder of the Society for

Pediatric Urology and served as its President. He also served as first Chairman of the Committee

on Urology of the American Academy of Pediatrics from 1960–1969. Three years later, this group

was to become the Section on Urology.
